Nutrition for Night Shift Workers

Nightshift workers experience irregular appetites, weight gain or loss and high rate of gastro intestinal disorders. Thus, a night shift is something challenging for one’s health. The ever increasing demand of companies has caused a major uptrend in mismanaged food habits leading to various kinds of health issues.


Many night shift workers tend to eat stored / packed / non heated food. Poor heating can lead to malnutrition indigestion heartburn and stomach ache. It is important to avoid fatty and greasy food at night. One should be liberal with vegetables and fruits, cut back on oily food, sweets, soft drinks and caffeine. Caffeine causes anxiety and blood pressure, it also interferes with iron and calcium absorption in the body.
